Africa Cup of Nations hosts Ivory Coast aim to build on their opening-day victory over Guinea-Bissau and secure a place in the knockout stages when they face Nigeria at the Olympic Stadium of Ebimpé on Thursday.
Nigeria, coming off a 1-1 draw in their opening match against Equatorial Guinea, will be eager to bounce back from their disappointing start and reignite their pursuit of continental glory.
Ivory Coast had a strong start to the tournament, its 34th edition, with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Guinea-Bissau. Seko Fofana of Al Nassr opened the scoring in the first four minutes, and Jean-Philippe Krasso secured the win with the second goal in the 58th minute.
Under the guidance of coach Jean-Louis Gasset, Ivory Coast are currently on a seven-game undefeated streak across all competitions, including four consecutive wins since a 1-1 friendly draw against South Africa in October. This successful run also includes two World Cup qualifying victories, with a 9-0 triumph over Seychelles and a 2-0 win against Gambia.
Now, with strong momentum and the support of their home fans, Ivory Coast aims to secure successive wins in their opening two games at the AFCON finals for the first time since 2013. In that year, they won against Togo and Tunisia before playing to a 2-2 draw with Algeria.
